Jerusalem, 22 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court convicted Malachi Israel Banias, after he admitted to impersonating another person using a fake ID, concealing his criminal history of sexual offenses and the fact that he was previously subject to a supervision order, and being hired as a teacher at an all-boys school where minors study, in violation of the law prohibiting the employment of sex offenders in educational institutions.

According to the amended indictment, in which he pleaded guilty and was convicted, Banias was subject to a supervision order following a previous conviction for a sex offense, which prohibited him, among other things, from working in settings that allowed contact with male minors. When he came to be hired at the school, Banias falsely introduced himself as “Israel Spiegel,” used a fake ID bearing another person’s photo and details, and was hired at Talmud Torah in violation of the law prohibiting him from doing so.
