Jerusalem, 23 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Prof. Yuval Dor and Dr. Agnès Klochendler, have been awarded a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant under the EU’s Horizon Europe programme for pioneering work on type 1 diabetes.
Their project investigates early disease mechanisms, proposing that disruptions in RNA editing within pancreatic beta cells, rather than viral infection alone, may trigger the autoimmune response that destroys insulin-producing cells.
The study aims to identify new targets for early intervention and prevention before significant beta-cell damage occurs.
